Genichi Taguchi's Legacy
Very hard to ignore the portrayal of the Japanese with regard to management, quality management, since the quality gurus is very important, which can not be passed by high, so that their contributions, legacies on this topic have led . Such is the case of Genichi Taguchi, who as we remember it. Escalon Ivan was born in Japan in 1924, graduating from the Technical School of the University Kiryu, and later received a doctorate at Kyushu University in 1962. He worked at the Astronomical Department of the Navigation Institute of the then Japanese Empire, and later worked in the Ministry of Public Health and the Institute of Statistical Mathematics. However, his main professional career has been in the Electrical Communication Laboratory (ECL) of Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Co. (1948-1961) where he focused on improving productivity in research and development. Following this , is a professor for the University of Tokyo Aoyama Gaukin and consultant for companies such as Toyota Motors as important and Fuji Films. He was a member of the Japan Association for Quality Control, the Japan Association for Industrial Engineering, the Japan Association for Applied Statistics and Central Japan Association.Trabajó Quality Control in the Astronomical Department of the Navigation Institute of the then Japanese Empire, and later worked in the Ministry of Public Health (here conducted the first national study on health and nutrition) and the Institute of Statistical Mathematics.

The most important contribution of Dr. Taguchi has been the application of statistics and engineering to reduce costs and improve quality in product design and manufacturing processes. Methods used in small-scale experimentation in order to reduce variation and find sturdy and cheap designs for mass production. The most advanced applications of Taguchi Methods allow flexible technology developed for the design and manufacture of families of high quality products, reducing time for research, development and delivery of design. It is known that after the Second World War, Japanese manufacturers had to struggle to survive with very limited resources. Had it not been for the improvements of Taguchi, the country might not have achieved the success they achieved later. Taguchi revolutionized the production process in Japan through cost savings and its relationship to quality. He understood, like many other engineers, the whole production process was affected by external influences. But he realized that if I could identify this "noise" through methods would have great effects on the variability of product quality.
One of his major contributions to improving quality was "The Loss Function", an equation that quantified the decline in the value perceived by customers as product quality fell. It was the first person to equal quality with cost. The most important contribution of Dr. Taguchi has been the application of statistics and engineering to reduce costs and improve quality in product design and manufacturing processes. Add Wikilearning, develop their own statistical methods to work in a phone company, applied to increase productivity and quality in industria.Creó the concept of "robust design", this exceeded their expectations for quality in order to achieve cliente.Diseño satisfaction robust Every time a product is designed, it is thinking about going to meet the needs of customers, but always within a certain standard, this is called "acceptable quality", so when the customer has no choice but to buy the company because it is cheaper to replace some defective items that do not produce them.
But not always be so, that once people are suspicious of the company and go away the kind clientes.El Taguchi proposed design is that there be greater emphasis on the needs that interest to the consumer and in turn , will save money when you do not interest you, and exceed the expectations the customer has the product. Says it is cheaper to pay a robust quality control and replenish fallas.Al make a particular product design robust maximize the likelihood of success on the market. And although this strategy seems expensive, in fact it is, that while we spend to exceed the characteristics that really interest the consumer, save when you do not give TaguchiTaguchi loss importancia.Función tried to guide producers to reduce variations in calidad.Para to evaluate this loss, we use a quadratic equation that fits the data of cost and product performance. As product performance equation recedes value increases and quality increases the cost to society.
